1. What Can Be Updated Online
Under UIDAI guidelines, residential address is the sole demographic component that can be updated fully online on the myAadhaar portal.
Mobile number updates, email linking, name corrections, Date of Birth changes, and biometric refreshes (fingerprints, iris, facial photograph) strictly require in-person attendance at an authorized Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
2. Document Proof-Based Update
If you possess valid address proof in your own name:
Step 1: Log in to myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in with your 12-digit Aadhaar number and mobile OTP.
Step 2: Select 'Address Update', then click 'Update Aadhaar Online'.
Step 3: Enter your new address fields (House/Building, Street/Road, Landmark, Pincode, Village/City, District, State). The portal auto-maps the local post office.
Step 4: Select your document type from UIDAI's approved list (e.g. Electricity bill, Bank passbook, Passport, or Rent agreement) and upload a clean color scan under 2 MB.
3. Head of Family (HoF) Route (No Proof)
If you do not have address proof in your own name (e.g. spouse, child, or elderly parent living with family):
Select 'Head of Family (HoF) based Address Update'. Enter the Aadhaar number of the Head of Family (father, mother, spouse). Upload a Proof of Relationship (PoR) document such as a ration card, marriage certificate, or birth certificate.
The HoF logs into myAadhaar within 30 days and gives OTP consent. Once approved by the HoF, the address is replicated to your Aadhaar card.
4. Document Upload Specifications
Scanned proof files must be in color (PDF, JPG, or PNG format under 2 MB). Scans of black-and-white photocopies, cropped documents with missing headers, or bills older than 3 months are rejected by backend verification officers.
Compress PDF Under 2 MB
Compress multi-page bank statements or rent deeds to under 2 MB for myAadhaar upload.
5. Fee Payment & Tracking URN
Pay the statutory fee of ₹50 via UPI, Netbanking, or Debit Card. Download the acknowledgment slip containing your 14-digit Update Request Number (URN).
Track progress on myAadhaar under 'Check Enrolment & Update Status'. Once the status shows 'Completed', download your new e-Aadhaar immediately.
