How to Correct PAN Card Details Online (Name, DoB & Photo)
Step-by-step guide to updating or correcting Name, Date of Birth, or Father's Name on PAN via CSF Form without changing the 10-digit number.
- Your 10-digit PAN alphanumeric number remains permanently unchanged during corrections
- Aadhaar name mismatch can be corrected seamlessly using Aadhaar e-KYC mode
- Statutory fee is ₹107 for new physical card delivery within India
1. Overview of PAN Correction (CSF Form)
If your PAN card contains a misspelled name, an incorrect date of birth, an outdated photograph, or an omitted father's name, you can rectify the record by submitting a 'Request for New PAN Card or/and Changes or Correction in PAN Data' (commonly known as the CSF Form) on Protean or UTIITSL.
Critical Rule: Your 10-digit Permanent Account Number (PAN) will NOT change. The Income Tax Department updates your database record and issues a freshly printed plastic card bearing your existing PAN.
2. Step-by-Step Online Filing Process
Step 1: Open Protean (onlineservices.proteantech.in) or UTIITSL. Under Application Type, select 'Changes or Correction in existing PAN Data / Reprint of PAN Card'. Select Category as 'INDIVIDUAL'.
Step 2: Enter your existing 10-digit PAN, full name, date of birth, and email to generate a Token Number.
Step 3: Select submission mode: 'Submit digitally through e-KYC & e-Sign (Paperless)' if your Aadhaar has the correct details, or 'Submit scanned images through e-Sign' if you want to upload specific gazette/deed proofs.
Step 4: Enter your corrected personal particulars and enter your existing PAN in the verification section.
3. The Critical Left-Margin Checkbox Rule
On the online CSF form, every field has a checkbox on the left margin. You must tick the checkbox ONLY for the specific fields that require modification (e.g. tick 'Name' if correcting spelling; leave it unticked if only updating address).
If you leave a box unticked, the department assumes that field is already correct and will not update it.
4. Required Proofs for Name & DoB Changes
Minor Spelling Correction: Aadhaar Card, Passport, or Voter ID with matching correct spelling.
Major Legal Name Change (Post-Marriage or Personal Choice): Official State/Central Gazette notification evidencing name change, or registered Marriage Certificate.
Date of Birth Correction: Birth certificate, 10th marksheet, or Aadhaar card.
Proof of PAN: A copy of your existing PAN card or official PAN allocation letter.
5. Fee Payment & Tracking
Pay the statutory fee of ₹107 via Netbanking, UPI, or Card. Complete Aadhaar OTP e-Sign. Track your status on Protean/UTIITSL using the 15-digit acknowledgment number.
Once processed, your updated e-PAN is emailed within 3-5 days, and the corrected physical card arrives via Speed Post in 10-15 days.
