How to Apply for a New Voter ID Online (Form 6)

1. Eligibility & The 4 Qualifying Dates

Under the Representation of the People Act, 1950, every Indian citizen who attains 18 years of age is entitled to be registered as an elector in the constituency where they ordinarily reside.

Under the amended election laws, applicants no longer have to wait for January 1. There are four statutory qualifying dates every year: January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1. Citizens who turn 18 can submit advance Form 6 applications starting at age 17.

2. Creating Account on ECI Voters' Portal

Step 1: Open the official Election Commission of India portal at voters.eci.gov.in.

Step 2: Click 'Sign-Up'. Enter your 10-digit mobile number, email address, and captcha. Set a secure password and authenticate via OTP.

Step 3: Log in using your registered credentials.

3. Form 6 Section-by-Section Walkthrough

Click on 'Fill Form 6 - Register as a New Elector/Voter':

Section A (Select State, District & AC): Select your State, District, and specific Legislative Assembly Constituency based on your residential neighborhood.

Section B (Personal Details): Enter first name and surname in English. The portal automatically transliterates names into your state's regional language (verify regional spelling carefully). Upload a passport-size color photograph (under 2 MB, white background).

Section C & D (Relative & Contact): Enter father's or mother's name, mobile number, and email address.

Section E (Aadhaar Details): Enter your Aadhaar number for identity authentication.

Section F (Date of Birth): Enter date of birth and upload age proof (Birth certificate, 10th marksheet, Aadhaar, or PAN card).

Section H (Present Address): Enter complete house number, street, post office, pin code, and mandal/tehsil. Upload residence proof (Aadhaar, electricity bill, bank passbook, or rent agreement).

Section L (Declaration): Declare that you are an Indian citizen and have never been enrolled in any other constituency. Submit the form and record your alphanumeric Reference ID.

4. Booth Level Officer (BLO) Field Check

The Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) assigns your form to your local neighborhood Booth Level Officer (BLO).

The BLO will visit your residence to verify that you are an ordinary resident at the stated address. Present your original age and address proofs. The BLO submits a field verification report online.

5. Downloading Digital e-EPIC Card

Upon approval, an SMS is sent containing your unique alphanumeric EPIC Number. Log into voters.eci.gov.in and click 'e-EPIC Download' to obtain your official digitally signed, full-color PDF voter card.

A physical color PVC card is subsequently printed by the state election department and delivered via India Post Speed Post.
